Adding a new product - always getting position 0 - bug?

Hi,

I don't understand why every time I add a new product in SM, it gets the position 0. Is that a normal thing or a bug? It makes no sense to me and only mess up things when it's time to change the orders as multiple 0 position items just wont move and make the whole order unusable. I then have to go in the BO to fix things up... :/

Thanks for letting me know if it's normal (in the BO it's always added at the last position... which makes a lot more sense)

Cloning a product does give the last position in SM. I really think it's a bug for new products... I had the same problems while adding features and attributes by the way

And with the categories too, but at least for those, there if a field to set the position manually. If you can't fix this, at least add this field option in the next release please!

first of all you can automate position by special buttons from toolbar -
you can use frag n drop and set position of elements in few clicks - watch video example http://screencast.com/t/sT5aZN79
how to change position by places of products in Data Grid.

Yes I know, but it's not working when multiples items have the 0 position, which happens because every newly added item get the 0 position

Ok I see now, I though you mean by the other two buttons

Do you want to add auto-increment action for each added product ?
For example - last pos = 10 for 10 products for category.
When you add 11 product - pos will be + 1 = 11
Am I right ?

So I need to click that every time I add a new item?

Aniway what if I only want to change one item's position? How can I arrange them the way I want in the list if their position is to 0? If a few items have the same positions, they simply don't move up or down...

Ok, I'll put them all at the end like you did and figure it out.

ANiway, they should be added having the last position, am I right on this ?

It's better for you to sort products on grid by drag and drop and press the sort button.
Formally , you are right. It's better to add auto-increment pos for new product.
Let's wait for customer's votes and comments for this suggestion.

Ok thanks..

But again, almost no one is ever voting anything... look at the list, everything is at 1 or 0 ;)

There is abug though. The fact that adding product and moving them around in the category or between categories do not update correctly the pos field. This is VERY annoying as from that moment (when there are no more in sequence in the category) you can't sort them using the pos (move up/down,...). Exempel I have 5 product and and (from top to bottom of category) 1 2 5 3 6. It's impossible to move product with pos 3 up. So i vote for it/

I had the same problem. The way I solved it is by opening the category popup window (double-click it?), you can then change their position manually in the top corner. Give it the last number then move it back to where you want it. This is the manual position box that I was talking about earlier which is missing from the product popup window, look at the picture in my third message.
