The vast majority of Prestashop shops are hosted in shared servers. However, a BASIC maintainance tool such as Regenerate Thumbnails does not work in most shared servers, because of timeout problems.
Prestashop Store Manager has addressed similar problems with index rebuilding and cache clearing, but not thumnail regeneration. For the moment, the only alternative is an expensive addon from another vendor. Adding this feature to Prestashop Manager would appeal to some additional clients suffering this problem.

In this case regenerating of 1000 images will take long time
Get images from server - regenerate --- upload images back to server
On the second hand - if we use PHP module on the server problem will be the same for shared server.

Even if takes hours, you can always leave the software operating at night, knowing the work will be done in a reliable manner. Currently it is just impossible to accomplish this with Prestashop BO alone, unless you have a really reduced set of products in your online shop.

Our online shop has 2.000 products and combinations, more or less. I think there are 7 different sizes per product image (you probably know that much better than me), so that gives you 14.000 regenerated images. That's impossible to achieve without a dedicated software, and I personally find 2.000 references not a very high number. We expect to grow!

I remember when we hosted at shared enviroment and had the same set of issues David explanied.
With this implemented things looking good far all Prestashop users hosting in shared enviroment.

Right now we are working on the following major things for eBay and Amazon Integration Addons:
- automatic scheduler
- synchronization of price and quantity
- support of combinations and\or features
- visual enhancements in Addons.
I hope, those implementations will be useful for customer :-)

Is it possible to regenerate for several products at once?
If I choose 100 products in the prod-grid, and then click the Images tab in the bottom window. The only image available is the image of the last selected products.
So to regenerate for 4000 products, I still have to do that operation manually, selecting one-and-one product?
