Is there a good way to move hosting providers using Presta Store Manager? I've been using one as more of a dev host and now want to move to a better host it's been a little tricky so far.

ie. To move from Host A to Host B

Thanks

Hello David!

Thank you for your post.

The Store Manager is not intended to move the PrestaShop installation form one store to another. You have to ask you hosting provider to advise you on this regard.

Hi David,

I know it passed quite a while from your original post but let me add some comments to all other users of Store Manager for Prestashop.

As Mr. Volodymyr said, you can not use SM to directly transfer your files, configuration and DB from one hosting provider to another, but if you want only to move the website and its DB (basically stuff you have on your public_html folder on the current server) you can make full backup (both files and DB included)with the store manager and then use that backup to restore it on a new server.

Your store wont be working immediately, instead you would need to do some tweeks like changing your store URL configuration in the Prestashop BO or directly into a DB using phpMyAdmin tools, then htaccess file would need to be regenerated and few other similar stuff.

Moving Prestashop and any other CMS or e-commerce solution is quite pain in the ass if you ask me. Similar things are said by people far more experienced then me, and hosting companies usually go with that remark too... Sometimes is better (and cheaper solution at the end) to stay with the current provider and purchase a bigger plan with more resources.

Other way is to do a full cPanel to cPanel migration. Its slow and painful process easpecially if your cPanel is huge (mine is around 15 Gb) but then again its is the safest I think.

These are just my 2 cents.
Cheers
Dean
