Why is Prestashop Manager so slow

Why is Prestashop Manager so slow

I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but prestashop manager is extremely sluggish and at times painfully slow to work with. It's becoming an increasingly frustrating piece of software to use. I'm running it on an Intel i7 machine with 12 gigs of ram. Every click or scroll on the user interface reacts 3-4 seconds later , what am I doing wrong or is this normal.

Hello Candido,

It looks like you're using direct database connection, which may slow down the performance of Store Manager due many factors.

We recommend you to configure database connection using Bridge Connector (like for PrestaShop Cloud however it works with self hosted solutions as well), which operates with the local copy of remote database.

Find more details on how to configure Cloud database connection in the article below:

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I am using the Bridge Connector (bridge php) to a self hosted solution and not direct Database connection.
Would using the prestashop cloud connection increase the speed over the self hosted connection?

Thanks

Hello Candido,

Cloud database connection works by the same principle as Bridge connection (manual synchronization - Get and Post) except the image upload, which is being processed via HTTP.

Hello, unfortunately after 3 years the issues on speed are the same on Windows 10 and they are: 1) the app is still emulated on 32bit 2) it seems that there's no real multicore support 3) only the main product picture is cached on disk (and if eg. you have a high resolution picture for the product, it means many seconds of wait...) 4) the local MySQL version used is really slow compared to a current server version. All this means that this software could be much faster, almost perfect, but for some reason doesn't get that extra something that makes the difference. That's already evident when the program starts, even on an SSD disk, how long it takes to display the contents of a local database or when switching between databases, the interface is too slow even using the bridge method (which it should be very fast). It would take a thread that takes care of the interface, one that takes care of the images and the cache (all the images, even the thumbnails), one for the database fields and so on, and then depending on the user choice, it could take advantage of all CPU cores and available RAM, even if optimized. Best Regards.

Hello Candido,

Thanks for your email. 1) it passed only a month when the Delphi released 64 bit compiler. It will pass some time till the moment the application will switch to it as currently we work on 64bit for alpha Mac version.
2) the Store Manager works does not support multicore but works by multithreads
3) yes, currently the main image is cached and if it will be of a high resolution it will influence the speed, but for closest future we plan to improve the work with such images and generation of thumbs for them
As a workaround for now, you can remove the display of images column in products grid and then the product list will be displayed much faster https://www.screencast.com/t/qXyynHeh8j 4) thanks for the mentioned points for improvement of our software.

Have a nice day!

Hello Nadia, thanks for your answers. After deep test, in your favor we can say that customers should not use Avast antivirus or something like that because they not only slow down your application but your computer's performance at all, even on minimal installation. It seems that at the moment Windows Defender does a good job, anyway, so maybe better this in conjunction with Malwarebytes for periodic scanning. For confirmation, please try to install Avast, even on minimal, and then after a while try to do a simple import/export with your software to see how it even slows down the windows, for showing any dialog form. Best Regards

Hello Candido,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Store Manager might be blocked by antivirus, firewall or any other monitoring software. In such case, you need to add Store Manager to Exception list of all the monitoring systems you use (this folder should be added: C:\Program Files (x86)\eMagicOne\Store Manager for PrestaShop https://www.screencast.com/t/WisplvZdV1)

Hello Nadia, it's not a problem about exceptions...the app slows down regardless of this, even if you choose to install the Avast on minimal and make an exception. The exceptions were already there where test conducted. bye

Hello Allessio,

Thanks for your reply. In general any monitoring software is slowing down both PC and SM. In such case you may use defender for protection.

Thanks for your input.

Have a good day!
