In Store Manager for Magento Enterprise Edition version, it's possible to control what attributes to show in the Product Grid - see the screenshot.
According to quick edit of Attributes in the Grid - it's very interesting feature. But from the other hand, it's not so easy to edit long text values in the Grid.
In this case, you need to use separate window to place this field (or bottom tab of the program)

The description is not our main purpose. For example, the weight and the Universal Part No. (Our customer attribute), it would be nice if we could edit in the grid itself. We don't want to open the product one by one to edit.There are a lot of other short custom attribute that we want to edit in the grid for speed. If the field is an drop down, you can do a in-grid drop down like the visibility attribute.
Sometimes, when we want a particular attribute to have the same value for 2 products, it makes no sense for us to use the multi editor and update them. By keying in the grid and copy/paste on another product, it will be faster.
If you can get a trial on Shopify, check out its editable cell on the browser. It is very powerful, even more powerful than Microsoft Excel.
Please consider this feature as it will help your users tremendously in speed editing.

Another example is we have an attribute such as "Internal Comments", if we can directly write our office comments on the product in the grid would be cool. This will save us a lot of time.
