Improved search functionality (by category)

Recently I needed to identify products within a certain category by he key word "ipad". When I saw the results, I realized immediately that the search returned all products with my key word in my entire store.

It would seem like a necessary function if you wanted to update attributes for specific products within a specific category based on a keyword.

The goal was to take all products within a general category called "Cases" to be moved into ||Store|Cases|ipad cases.

Hello Jay.
We have examined such a task. This is quite useful improvement.
Unfortunately, we did not have time to add this task in the next major release.
Right now we are working on orders creation via Store Manager + POS and barcode scanner support.
I think most likely we can get back to this problem in 2014 - Quarter 1-2

Any news on this? I'm trying to sort through 4k products, being able to search within a category would save me sooooooo much time. Thank you.

Hello Jay,

Thank you for your reply.

Please clarify where exactly the specific keyword should be saved/searched, so we could check and provide you with possible solution.
We should mention that at the moment Store Manager allows to sort by Categories and add Custom Attribute to Store view, so you could search for it (you can use mask in Custom Filter %Cases%).

Waiting to hear from you

Hi Ira,

It would be part of the advanced search function, I would want to filter an entire category. Using my example above I have a category called "Cases", I would only want to search for the word "iphone" in category "Cases" and return all products from category cases only and not the entire store.

Thank you,

Jay

Hello Jay,

Thank you for your reply.

We are not planning to change the Filter/Search functionality in nearest future.

At the moment, you can sort the products based on Category and value for specific attribute (%iphone%):

While this isn't exactly what I was looking for - it actually allows me to achieve my end result. Thank you as I was not aware of this feature.

I would still ask that my suggestion be considered for future releases, it would seem a necessary extension to your search function.

Thank you,

Jay

At the moment, feature has 1 vote. If many customers would vote for the feature, we will check the possibility to implement it in future.
