I belive it would be more SEO friendly to rename image file names imported from suppliers via http://.
example: "S021123_0.jpg" (on supplier's server) rename to my-product-name.jpg

If there are more than one image, then: my-product-name.jpg, my-product-name-1.jpg, my-product-name-2.jpg etc.

It could be a selectable option. So if you don't want to rename images filename, you don't select this option.

Thanks!

Thanks for comment.
In this case you'll change the Magento logics of image saving.
It's more realistic to add Product label with help of expressions.
What's expressions - see more here - http://www.mag-manager.com/useful-articles/tipstricks/what-is-expression-how-to-use-it-performing-magento-import/

I know about product labels, what i ment is that mag-manager could rename image file before Posting changes to Web. As i have seen, mag manager uses a local database. So it could "save" images imported directly renamed with the product names in the local database. Then, when we publish to web, the images will be transfered allready renamed. This wouldn't affect Magento logics with anything.
Thanks for reply!

ok. it's clear!
Rename of image file name "on-the-fly" before upload to the store folder. :-)
Let's wait for customers' comments and votes for this suggestion.
Please vote for it to speed up the implementation.

Considering that images are ALT sensitive and also carry some weight in SEO, this feature could come in handy.
It would save a lot of time, time otherwise spend on renaming and loosely compressing tons of images, one by one...

Right now you can use this option for import.
First of all, Magento Store shows ALT tag for image automatically when Label option is empty - see screenshot - mag-label1.png
You can assign Media label in the imported fields - see screenshot - import-label-assign.png
After that new label will be available on the page - mag-label-2.png
