Automated Product Import - Run as Service (Windows)

The Automated Product Import runs only when the user is logged in. This causes problems for customers who run this software on a dedicated server.

Having the user logged in 24/7 runs the risk of a vulnerability. The Automated Product Import should be able to run as a service (on a Windows OS) without a GUI in order to run.

When you select "Run whether user is logged in or not" in the Windows Task properties window, the process will open whilst the user is logged off, however, will wait until the user logs back in again.

I am surprised that this feature was not included in the software to begin with!

Thanks for suggestion James!
How about to adjust scheduler with auto-login option ?
In this case you don't need to wait for new service creation.
Here it is interesting article about this option - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/95316-task-scheduler-create-shut-down-pc-automatically-task.html

Hi Sergiy,

The automated product import has already been setup on a scheduled task. I have changed the task to run whether or not the user is logged in, however, this makes no difference.

See below screenshots;

*Task Properties (ticked.png)
*Remote Task Scheduler (Running the task from another computer on the domain) (TS.png)
* Remote TASK LIST to show Magento is running with no user logged in. (CMD.png)

The import will continue to run once someone has logged into the server. But this is not acceptable, because it's meant to be an automated task. Someone shouldn't have to be logged in to a terminal in order for a task to run.

Thanks,
James

Well this is embarrassing...

It actually looks like it finished the import process without the user being logged in after all!

My apologies - I must have been impatient for it to finish.

Thanks for screenshots, James.
I hope, it works well for you...
Well, the implementation of Scheduler as service will take some time.
For us - in this case we need to change progam code.
I'm afraid, this suggestion will not be able to implemented quickly.

By the way, you are the first user with such type of request.
Let's wait for user's comments and feedbacks about this suggestion.
