this would be very useful, as a plugin for magento has to be used from github to correct if this occurs during an import.

Yes, URL rewrites is a problem in Magento 2.2.6. URL's can't be deleted or regenerated by running an index as was the case in Mag 1.
Currently eMagicOne offers the ability to "Delete URL rewrite data" for categories but not for products.
It will be nice to have the ability to delete url rewrites for products.
Even better, the ability to delete ALL rewrites if required.
Likewise the ability to regenerate URL rewrites at category and product level and store level.
